When you use Pensieve and entrust Pensieve with your data, we have a responsibility to treat you and your data with dignity and respect, and we take that responsibility seriously.
This statement describes how Pensieve fulfills the responsibility to be a good steward of data, specifically regarding the collection, use, storage, and protection of content you provide and data we collect.
Pensieve collects your email address to help you send emails to yourself, and for that purpose only. Your email address is stored securely and Pensieve does not sell or share your email address. The same care is applied with the emails you send to yourself using Pensieve — the content (e.g. text, audio, photos) is not stored, sold, or shared. For more details, read on.
Pensieve is an iOS app, share extension, and service platform. The service platform consists of Pensieve services, data stores, and connections to third-party services. All communications between the Pensieve app and the Pensieve service platform, and between the Pensieve share extension and the Pensieve service platform, are performed using encrypted connections. Because Pensieve is an app that you use to email yourself, Pensieve asks for your email address. After verifying that you’re the owner of the email address, Pensieve will send emails to that email address on your behalf when you use Pensieve.
Your email address is collected and verified when setting up a new account in Pensieve using an identity service provider (e.g. Apple or Google) or by manually providing your email address and responding to a verification email with a verification code or link.
By tapping on the Continue With Apple button and completing the verification prompts you are providing Pensieve with an email address associated with your Apple ID. Pensieve will confirm with Apple identity services that you have verified this email address. If the verification check passes, Pensieve will create a new account for you on the Pensieve service platform with this email address, and the email address will be saved to your Pensieve account. No other personally identifying information associated with your Apple ID is stored or used by Pensieve.
By tapping on the Continue With Google button and completing the verification prompts you are providing Pensieve with an email address associated with your Google Account. Pensieve will confirm with Google authentication services that you have verified this email address. If the verification check passes, Pensieve will create a new account for you on the Pensieve platform with this email address. No other personally identifying information associated with your Google Account is stored or used by Pensieve.
By tapping on the Continue With Email button and providing an email address, Pensieve will proceed with a manual verification process.
In order to verify that you are the owner of the email address, Pensieve sends a verification code to the email address, which you must enter in the app. While awaiting verification, your email address is held in temporary storage on the Pensieve platform as a hashed value and is deleted if verification isn’t completed within a time limit.
After receiving the verification code, an account is created for you on the Pensieve platform.
